ey guys. recently finished the painting of my engine, and now i've dropped exteriors and interiors for engineeriors.
first ugly peice - the coolant box. reserviour. tank. whatever you want to call it - it's filthy. see picture below how cheap/easy is this to replace, or what do i take it apart and clean it with? i want to acheive a result where i can actually see that lovely green coolant rather than seeing a browny burnt box that looks like it came off a car much older. cheers guys.

i have a polished coolent tank in my bf and have one for a au do u know if itwould fit they look awsome

if it's for an au, it should fit. parents have a bf2 fairmont ghia, their coolant tank is something i'd steal when they weren't watching? did you mean you had one that you were selling? have you got a picture? cheers ky |

Try washing the inside of your reservoir with CLR (Calcium/Lime/Rust) it should help to clear it up a bit.

Forget CLR. If its really brown the easiest way to fix it is to buy a new one. I mucked around for hours trying everything to clean one and it made little difference. They are not all that expensive new. Just keep your sensor if fitted from your old one as they are half the cost alone. Cheers

I tried with CLR as well...but left it soaking for a day and a bit...did make it look a little bit cleaner but not to the point that I'd expect. So I bought a new one from FTG for $125 including a new sensor. You can get a new coolant reservoir tank from Ford for $103 without the sensor. This was a quote from the Ford spares parts in Campbellfield in Melbourne. phong =P~

My old man was actually telling me that he managed to clean his with sand.... believe it or not... He put sand and water in and shook it around for ages and it worked like sand paper... Just make sure you give it a very thorough cleanout before you put it back in. His looks pretty good now, but you can never remove the look of age.

Petrol. Cleaned it better than anything else I've tried, but like everyone else has said, you can't beat a new one.
Then that one goes brown too.

I think you can get em on ebay still for about $70. I tried fuel and shook it and soaked it overnight but it didnt make much difference for me. I think you might have to bite the bullet and get new one if you are fussy.

Mine broke the other day.. I must have made the big feeder hose too tight when I put in the EF radiator cos it cracked the outflow pipe on the bottom.
Luckily I had a spare here, but it didn't have the sensor in it.... so I tried to get the old one out and ended up snapping the float off... (really really tight fit) so now I have the float taped to the sensor so I could plug it in and stop the alarm light flashing. That sensor was handy.. want it back now.. |

My EA's lower pipe cracked and I'm told its an age and heat thing.
So after trying all of the above fixes on my EL's and it still looking bad I brought a new one off Ebay. Looks great to see the green coolant level again. |
