On a coolant concentrate bottle, it says to dilute with "demineralised water". Not tap water?

It is more a safety measure against regions that have very hard water (high mineral content). In Toowoomba we have very hard water. Shower heads last a year or so before clogging, you get calciferous deposits on all taps, glasswear, etc. Using this type of water or bore water will start to clog and reduce the efficiency of your cooling system.
If you have hard water then pay the $3 for 5l of demineralised water. If you have soft water, use tap water or tank water. cheers Scott

Thanks Scott. I've got enough for 20 litres, so I'm all set.

Make sure to flush it first!
Also make sure you leave the radiator cap off, turn the heater on full and run the engine for 15mins to get rid of any air bubbles. cheers Scott

Drill an 1/8" hole in the t'stat, it helps bleed air out of the system, stops "heat shock" at the radiator. This is a Ford TSB. I've been doing this for about 20yrs. Ford only came out with it about 4yrs ago.

Spot on macgyver, varying water, qualities can play havoc with your cooling. It would be better to go with a quality premix, and flush your system every 10-15000 kms. Its a simple and relatively inexpensive service compared to problems you may encounter if you fail to maintain.

ford has introduced a premix to use on the BF's. due to the varying quality of water in the country ( i think we will have mud coming through our pipes soon if it doesnt rain)
