theres a plastic bolt in the bottom of the radiator. drain it from there. make sure the rad cap if off before hand
take the fans off the back and the two bolts from the top of the rad and lean it back to the engine block so you can wipe down the front of the rad from all the grass seed etc theres no REAL need to take off all the hoses but you'll most likely find it a little easier in SOME but not all cases. keep the hose ON that goes over the alternator so you dont drown it! Word of advice, swap the thermostat, thermo gasket and file down the thermo housing flat. common fault that the housing warps with heat and will weep. the idea in doing this is to save you having to do it again if something f**k up (hopefully) get a little bit of gasket seal and smear it on too. you'll need 5L quality concerntrate and 5L distiled water. the block will hold about 4L. I know its not recommended by some ppl, but i just put the garden hose in to the block and kept flushing till it came out clear. there will still be some coolent in the water box (heater) but dont worry about that. All up the whole system takes 14L (spec from ford) clean as much of the crust and s**t off everything while you can. reverse the process keeping in mind that the plastic plug for the rad isnt built to hold excessive force. i believe the wing nut ones are better so you cant over do them. idea is that the plastic will break before it f**k your aluminum radiator. Thats how i did mine and my system hasnt lost a drop since.

Yeah do all that, make sure the thermostat is removed while you do it.
Take off the hose from the waterpump, and reverse flush it from that hose so that the water comes back out the water pump again until clear and there is no more sediment etc. You may find some casting sand, scale or other stuff come out. This is how I've always done flushing in the W/S. Get a flush gun with a connection for air and water if you access to a compressor. This may be overkill. |

I'll add that you can buy replacement thermostat housings that come with a new gasket.
Also be VERY careful tightening the plastic drain plug in the bottom of the radiator. If you break the end off, your in for a PITA to get it back out. |

good if you can get your hands on one of those guns that plugs into air and water, expensive though, but dam they work well, its highly adviseable to to send your radiator in to be properly cleaned out if it hasnt been done in a few years, mainly if you do have overheating problems that is

I remove the drain plug from the radiator then back flush with a garden hose from the heater pipe before the heater tap. Wait 10min until the water coming out of radiator is clean. Do up screw , reconnect heater tap pipe and add your coolant.
