Gday guys
Some bad news. I was driving home from the mountains yesterday when i stopped to get some food. When I left I noticed that a cylinder wasnt firing. Now i know it'll limp easily on 5 cylinders so i took it easy and travelled the last 5 kms home. When i got home, i proceeded to test the plugs by pulling off the leads and found that the 3rd cylinder from the front wasnt firing. I let the car sit for about an hour to cool down before removing the spark plug to find it soaked with liquid. I then used paper towel to absorb some out of the cylinder to find it was coolant About two weeks ago the stock radiator decided to split open right down the side and once again i had to limp home very slowly because i know how bad this can be. Fortunately it was only a k or two home. I fitted a new radiator and everything seemed to be running ok but now this has happened and i am unsure of what it is and/or what can be done. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks

bad news!!
sounds like the head gasket has failed.. or worse the head has a crack.. more than likely its the gasket though.... |

I had the same problem it was a head gasket we changed it and its been fine ever since
Tip 1:ALWAYS warm your car up that extra 5 mins is better than doing a head gasket |

Thanks all
Just checked with the mechanic. He says most likely head gasket, could possibly be the head is cracked or at the very most unlikely a block crack. Hopefully get it fixed by wednesday Worst part of all is i replaced the head gasket not 1 year ago

Nah troyman, just the standard falcon one. But i shall ask him to use the au gasket this time.
Any ideas on rough price comparison between el and au gasket?

the au head gasket is about $70 from ford... well worth it though..

How long where you driving before you realised the radiator was split? Bet you cooked the engine and did the gasket/head.

You can also get AU style gaskets Non genuine from Permaseal. Be carefull others that list for AU's are not always steel shim gaskets. Head bolt tensions are also different when using the steel shim gasket.
A finer finish is also better when machining the head. Regards TPVM.

Hopfuly its only the gasket but you should also get the head surface machined to be sure it is perfectly flat. Good luck.
