my el fairmont ghia has 2 leaky rubber hoses for the heater at the firewall, one is about 15mm dia coming off the steel pipe from the thermostat housing and the other is the normal size coming from the other steel pipe for the heater but in the same spot as the other smaller one! now what the problem is they are leaking at the clamps but have only just started doing it since the weather has gotten warmer here in Melbourne!!! hence having the heater off more often now. the car doesnt overheat but the temp guage does go up and down until i guess all the water in the system becomes the same.
could there be a blockage somewhere causing this leak and temp variations? and has anyone else had this problem. any help would be great tnx. |

Joolz,
I had this the day before I headed to Bathurst, I installed a hose clamp in front of the hose clip at the Y junction because it had been seaping. A week ago the hose spilt pooring water out. I would suggest you replace the hose ASAP, it can't be done without access from under the car, so best not wait like I did and have it go whist on the road. Regards TW.

cheers i sorta had an idea that the hoses were to blame, reading my manual last night i found they suggested to reaplace hoses and use screw type clamps as the spring type stretch. tnx for the help.

Very common, my advice is to replace it with a proper high temp/pressure hose from Hoseco or whoever you have over there that's similar. You can get away without a shaped hose and for the sake of $20 it's well worth it. I do it with all the cars I see because I'm sick of doing it every few years
