Hello, does anyone know why I can hear coolant moving around engine after the engine has been turned off,is it possibly the thermostat, also I changed the PVC valve not long ago but it has started doing the same thing as the old one which is fluttering(you can hear the ball bouncing up &down),any help would be greatly appreciated!!

it will just be from the pressure that builds up in the cooling system and the expansion/contraction of things.

I believe it's actually referred to as convection which is the hot coolant rising to the highest part of the system, in this case the header tank & being replaced with cooler coolant and the cycle continues until the area itself cool.
That's why turbos are water cooled, it's actually more useful once the engine is off. No oil circulating to keep it cool but the coolant convects out the high side, when mounted/plumbed properly, drawing in a cooler mix.

In the old days, not all cars had water pumps, and they relied on the principle of Thermo-syphon....hence the tall radiators.

Are you sure you aren't just hearing the oil returning to the sump from the upper engine?
Can't say I've ever heard coolant flowing, even when the engine is running. Besides, how exactly would you hear the coolant flow if it is a sealed, air-free system? |

Thanks cjh I was almost there.

What about the thermostats that have the little jiggly pin in the hole?
Just that I want to install a Tridon Hi-flow Thermostat in my car ...just wondering if the opening with the jiggly pin will be sufficient, or whether I should just cut it out? Cheers.

some people put an extra hole in there. the jiggle pins have been known to block up. a little bypass is fine, just don't add too much.
I put a hi-flow stat in my au and the jiggle pin is not sufficient for a first fill in my opinion.
