The Coolant warning lamp keeps coming on in my EF, I check the water and it appears to be fine, replaced the radiator hoses as one had a small leak, but nothing to worry about, could this be a faulty sensor? and if it was would it appear through the airbag light flashing on start up? it comes on, then just turns off when it feels like, then will come on again and stay on for what ever it feels like.. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Rob

yes - you may be able to pull the sensor out and give it a clean, it could just have some gunk stuck on/in it somewhere. Or for peice of mind, put a new one in.

yeah, you undo the white "plug" which threads in behind the plug. Then pull the plug out!

it sounds like your sensor is busted mate common on those sensors is to fill up with water and sink to the bottom of your header tank. with the air bag light it sounds like there mabey a fault in the air bag system the light is flashin a code it will flash a sequence of numbers say it will flash once pause then flash twice thats a code 12 then it will go off for a few seconds then repeat the sequence again then stay on till the ignition is turned off just count these flashes and post the code up and some one will be able to help you out :D

ok its spitting out these codes;

F - being a flash P - being a pause

F - 3 times
P - 3 secs
F - 3 times
P - 6secs
F - 3 times
P - 3 secs
F - 3 times
P - 6 secs

keeps doing that untill it just stays on, so is that code 33 and code 36?

not sure on these code things.. lol

More than likely the float on the sensor has a small crack in it an it is full of water.
New one is around $25 for the Float only if you can still find one.
The Sensor & Float together is around $60

Or you could try sealing it. Drill a small hole in the float to allow water to escape then seal it back up with a waterproof sealer such as silicone. Make sure you smear it over the whole float, to seal the original crack.

I just had a quick look at the sensor and I can't see how you'd be able to get it out?

a pair of pointy nose(needle nose)pliers. you will find on the sensor there is a screw fitting that holds the sensor into the bottle use the pliers at 9 and 3 on the fitting or 12 and 6 up to you and unscrew it then pull the sensor out (damn its easyier to show someone then explain it) hope you understand my mummble jummble :D

To replace the float, drain/syphon the header tank, unplug sensor then unscrew the white plastic ring on the side of the tank, I use a pair of pointed nose pliers. Sensor just pulls out from tank. float can then be removed from sensor.

Here's a couple of pics for you, from when I did mine.
