Just recently the my EL XR6 has been leaking coolant out the drain hose at the top of the reservoir tank.
I have found that if I rev the car up a little say 2,000 upwards and hold it for a few seconds...then release the accelerator, once the revs drop to idle, coolant spews back into the reservoir tank at a tremendous rate and leaks out the drain hose... If I do it with the reservoir cap off, the coloant flushes back and spews out the top everywhere...sometimes large amounts ie a litre or 2... Anyone got ideas as to what the cause is? All I can think of is water pump?? HOPING not head gasket as I only did that last xmas hoilidays...

It could be your Water pump, maybe a blockage, in the colling system/head, that builds the prassure up while reving, then relieves back out. Does it do it during driving??

yeah a blockage is what id say.
happened to a mate a few weeks back. he had heating issues as the top water hose was blocked. remove all your hoses and check everything. here is a pic of my mates hose a few seconds before it went BOOM!!!!

lol...now thats PRESSURE!
I tried draining coolant and flushing the system...still the same problem...the thing is temps are ok while driving...although it does rise and fall a little more than normal...not quickly or anything, but now and again even after the engine is HOT it never stabilises completely as it used to... |

i have a feeling that there may be a blockage in the radiator itself. in enough to allow more water to pass around it but will eventually block the whole thing. id get it checked from a radiator specialist

I pulled the radiator from the car earlier while doing the coolant and gave it a good flush...there didnt seem to be any problem with blockages or anything...it all seemed normal.

yeah dude my car does that as well but only very rarely it dumps water out the ofverflow pipe, havent got to working out why. caus its only done it a few times im not to worried about it |

Dave, don't rule out the headgasket - if combustion gases are leaking past a fire ring into the cooling system, it can pressurise the system.
You can get the coolant tested for combustion gases. As for recently doing the head - depends whether the 'cause' was fixed correctly.

hmmm...that would be a pain in the a*** if it was the gasket...last time I replaced it because coolant was leaking from under the exhaust manifold...Im quite sure it was still on the original gasket at that point.
When its idling, I cant really see any air bubbles coming in the tank... |
