Hey Guy's, just joined.......Great forum, FORDS RULE............Copper???? why has no one yet discussed plastic? no real heat issues, weight?? nothing. Plenty of options. Genuine intakes are plastic.
Just a thought.

Yeh just my opinion, Frank should do what he thinks is best. Many years ago, we who were your age did all these (with carby cars..LOL) Cold air intakes, Cold fuel intakes and oh yeh, on a celica turbo we did refrigerated air intake ( the guy was an aircraft eng) man you should have seen this thing go. WRX would have nothing on this car. Anyway i only mentioned plastic cause i have a mate who i helped replace metal for plastic, and by his account it's way better. But each to his own. |

The plastics we have readily available in large diameter tubing do not lend themselves well to underbonnet applications. PVC ect. plus gluing is not as nice as welding, you cant polish plastic ect. |

But you could paint them, or powder coat them.
No need for glue as all bends are in preform (rubber) and use clamp systems to keep them in place. Anyway, it was just a thought. |

All i am hearing is copper will transfer too much heat.
Why cant you get the internal copper coated with some high temp insulator paint. The sort that i think HPC does to coat the inside of exhaust headers to keep the heat in the pipe and not radiate out. Therefore the heat would not get into the air stream as the insulator paint is protecting the cooler air on the inside. Not sure if i am throwing a bottle of metho on the fire here, but though i would query the argument. You would still have the shiny copper look and also have internal insulation from the heat. |

they uses copper for gas and water in houses
copper gets put in the ground etc and lasts for YEARS
