Hey just brought a TE Cortina off eBay, and I want to turn it into a street machine.... if you want to have a look
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 4613448568 yeah its seen better days... but the misses wants a hotted up car.. (THE MISSES THAT'S A FIRST) First thing I wanted to do is get rid of the vinyl roof top, once I get it off, can it just be painted over? will it look normal? Secondly she doesn't want a v8 (we got a old XF that cost as much as a v8 to run) she wants a V6, what would suit it? maybe a Capri v6? what are some of the V6 names I can search for on eBay.. like (clevo or Windsor..) What kind of transmission? Any advice.. tips.... ideas.... pictures... would be appreciated... thanks...

Best bet would be an EA-AU MPFI 6CYl like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4613017867& along with a T5 (or possibly a 4spd auto if your lazy) But your gonna have to find a lot of bits from a 6cyl cortina, (shoulda started with one of those) and youll have to either dig up a lot of parts (wiring looms and computer etc) or get a complete EA-AU wreck

well, thats a big can of worms your wanting to open there,
youll have less problems finding parts to fit (and fitting) an inline 6 (since corties came with the older pushrod six). plus every mechanic knows how to fix them and there are quite a few go fast bits for them. i really dont know anything about the availability or suitability of any ford V6 motor if you go with an inline 6, id suggest you case out your local wreckers for a 6cyl corty (for 6cyl specific parts) and a 3.9l EA (for ECU and necesary wiring) youll also need to think about fuel tank setup (EFI pumps live in the tank) and and possibly an engineers cert

you shoudl start looking for an EA-AU wreck, it will be much easier if you have all the parts needed on hand,
But first i suggest you find and talk to someone who can help you sort out and do all of this, there is a lot of work involved in an engine swap and i wouldnt want to see you waste a lot of time and money

find a 6 cyl cortina , and maybe a rear cross member for the gear box as the 4 cyl body is different for the gearbox mount , engine mounts to suit and radiator wiring to from memory, diff & tail shaft aswell , i do have rear xcross member for the conversion also 4speed to less belhousing and flywheel. ill need to dig around for it , my tip would have been to get A 6 cyl 4.1L Ghia than the 2 ltr .

I used to have the 1982 2.3L V6 cortina. It was available from the factory over here in NZ. Used the cologne V6 from the german Taunus which was also used in the 2.8i capri and into some of the sierras. We never had the straight 6s in cortinas over here.

if you are going to such effort how about a lexus v8, buy a half cut, nice small and lightweight made for cordy's, i had a cordy fetish for a while i brought about 20 of em over 5 years, 4's and 6's tc through to tf, i think there fast enough with a worked crossflow, unless you upgrade the brakes and suspention strenthin the chassis, also with few of mine i have found after a bit of clutch work the trailing arms tear off the floor

yer if you do the right things you can get the 4,s going quick, they respond well to head work and a good lumpy cam

If your going to waste money on a turbo for the 4 its a lot cheeper to just install a good 6 there not that bad on fuel and good power in a light weight car. Unless your missus just wants a car that looks hot and doesn't care about power.
