Howdy,
drove my car for about 5 minutes last night, was about 12 degrees and it was an all uphill drive. Car didnt get past the line before the N on the temp gauge. Left the car sitting for 10 minutes and came back to find this. 
I wanna know what coulda caused it? air in the system? lots of heat? faulty temp gauge maybe? just a poor quality radiator? Car is my daily, dont particularly wanna kill more radiators soon. Temporarily running an ef rad until i can figure out the problem. Cheers.

exactlty what happened to my radiator nearly two years ago... -DESTROYED MY ENGINE!!!!! (had to get a new motor) consider yourself lucky it was just the radiator..

check your radiator cap, i drove my car parked it went in the shops for about 5 min coolent every where, the pressure valve on the cap was stuck and it had no where for the pressure to go so it went out the side of the radiator as you should no the water temp heats up when you turn the car off due to no fan no pump and no air moving thru the radiator

it must be the week for it i got a el motor in my ea and mine radiator is leaking as well so dont be to upset .

the rad would have been showing signs of failure for a long time. happens to every plastic rad tank ever made |

had the same thing happen to mine one afternoon.
even though that morning i had taken it to a radiator specialist to check why it was leaking!! :s |

My radiator had a perfect core even the paint was good, always had renewed coolant and thermostat. Yet after 11 yrs it done the same thing. They break where the clamp goes, as the plastic gets hot, the clamp stays tight. more than likely they break from fatique and people removing the air filter and pushing on the pipe to get it out the way. This doesn't happen at the bottom as often as the coolant is colder and expansion is less. However I don't think they should ring alarms bells when they get more than 10yrs service life and cost around $200 to replace Gen.

yeah i better take out my torque converter and have it x-rayed to check for any fatigue cracks...ill get ultra tune to do it on the next service

If you honestly think the checking the condition of your cooling system is not part of 'total vehicle maintanence' you're a knob |

But that wouldn't necessarily show up, the hose would have been covering it and whose to say it would be leaking?
Sometimes pressure testing a system actually closes the leaks. Looks to me like it has gone brittle over time with heat, looks as if there was a lack of coolant as well. I wouldn't be blaming poor maintenance as far as not finding it goes. |
