hey guys/gals
does anyone know anyway to increase fuel encomony in EB/EF as both my cars are very thirsty. cars have regular servicing so that rules filters out and injectors ok, timing ok but cant seem to keep if from drinking to much fuel. both 6cyl auto. any help would be appriciated.

hi
depending on what you call bad economy.. how many litres per 100kms are you using.. and how hard do you drive??? mine uses about 13 litres per 100kms.. wich is about normal for city driving .. although it will go down to 9 litres pr 100 kms on the freeway.. other than buying a 4 cyl i dont know if i can help... |

mine sits on about 15lt/100 k's, but i drive it quite hard so "bad" fuel economy can be subjective
out on the highway i see about 8lt/100

EF sounds to be ok then, but my eb 30km per week cost me $40 to run. moderate to heavy footed at times.

And on this subject, kinda. Now that my running temperature is a little more with the new thermostat, is it possible that I could be getting better economy with the higher temp.? Because it does feel like it.

To me it sure sounds like it is possible, I am still on my L's when it comes to falcons, but most other cars have a cold start enrichment system, which prevents the car from leaning out... falcons I think would be pretty big on this due to the iorn block and the time it takes to get it to operating temperature. So if your car was always running cold(as mine is) you would be running rich and hence getting bad economy. Cheers |

Not running it long enought just as the kid says by the time you start it you turn it off. You will find your exhaust will last about a year and be blocked up if not rusted out.
Take the car out for 100kms and flog it that will clean it out and if you only drive 30kms a week buy a pushy and park the poor car you will get fit and the misses will love you more . Darren

i get around 700 ks out of my ef wagon tank which is very good when i only get 580 out of my ba sedan different diffs is what changes fuel
readings' ef at 120ks =1800 rpm ba at 120ks=2400 rpm regards hudo |

Post thermostat change (engine runs slightly warmer now) and after a full tank has settled my tank reads 616km remaining, averaging 12.0L.
I do poke my car at times, but I swear now I use about 1/5 less petrol now, and only change was the thermostat and radiator flush.

if the thermostat is faulty and opening too soon, the engine will be running colder than it should, causing the ECU to dump more fuel in to try to warm the engine up
