One of my mates told me that crow cams are crap because of a softer metal compound than others. Any opinions?

Or maybe he was just talking I mean what made him decide it was made out of a softer compound? And softer than what? Did he actually do some fancy tests and compare it to other companies products or what? |

Don't know why he said that but Crow make good quality cams. They are used in many race series and several big name ford mechanics use them too.

Dont crow just do what other billet grinders do and order blank cams from ford and grind them to their specs.

i,ve been told the same but not just crow but any cams apart from crane and comp cams which r world leaders,i,m after a particular comp cam but theres a 6 week wait from the u.s. i can get the same grind in aust but outlaws and my mechanic both gave me the same reason the metals r softer and they don't recommend

iv heard bad things about crow aswell. my old man used to build drag engines and stuff and when i told him i was considering a crow cam he set me straight LOL. also i think OG or Outlaw speedshop told me they were crap, and i keep hearing the same thing, they just fall apart. not to worry, i beleive that the Stage 3 engine from Its Performance i just orded (mmm, lots of power ...followed by lots of debt ) uses a wade cam.

i have used crow cams in two 2L escorts. the 2L escort engine is well known for exesive cam wear and finger follower wear. the last one had 490thou lift with 308degree duration and used very high pressure duoble springs.
it's now been running on the road for about 3 years to and from work and seeing alot of weekend high RPM work (7000rpm) never had one problem and the cam still looks good, even for an escort. the only thing i have againts crow cams is there cams for falons don't seem to work very well. |

hmmm ive been doing some research coz im looking into buying a cam soon... ive heard from 3 people that had bought complete cam kits that the valve springs they supply had broken but as far as ive been told the camshafts themselves are great.

you might want to look at a alted cam, these are purpose built for the I6 falcons, hundereds of hours of research has gone into the development, they should be avalible in a few weeks.

ive got a crow came and has been in the car for over 2 years i give the engine lotsa sh*t and no problems.... mate of myn had a ef xr8 with alotta engine work and had a crow cam and spun the dowls off the end of it and was told not to use them because they are soft metal i wouldnt mind knowing which of th cam is soft because they r billet cams and if its only the little metel dowl in the end breaking maybe the cam is fine but the dowl supplied by crow is of a softer metel and causes engine failiers....
