sounds like the buttones are cracked on the backing, the buttons are easy to replace, disconnect the batter, undo the 4(?) screws holing the airbag in, put airbag face down, buttons now exposes, unscrew, 2 screws per side, unclip the loom, install new buttons, reinsert everything.

Only thing is, trying to find replacment buttons.
