check ur brake lights are working.
your brake light switch may have failed. revs increase because the car is trying to speed up while you're braking. and the point at which is turns off would be 40km/h as thats when cruise will no longer activate.

Yes it will be your brake light switch, on the EF-EL cruise control system the brake light switch also functions as the cruise control switch. When this switch has failed, appling the brakes will slow the car down, however once you release the brakes, the cruise control will return the cars speed to the set point.

As above or could be brake switch is set incorrectly and it switching too low.
The switch is on a thread and can be wound in and out. What ever the case, get someone to stand behind the car / position it so you can see the brake lights from the drivers seat slowly apply the brakes and see when / if the lights come on. Replacing / adjusting the switch is a piece of piss (dispite what ppl are saying in the thread in "flaming"(Thats if it's the same as the on in the eb)) dunno if the factory cruise is the same as my aftermarket, but it disengages at 75% of the set speed, this means at 100 it will disengage at 75. The factory would have a similar setup as a failsafe incase of failure of other systems. hope this helps

i thought it was defently broken but seems like a quick fix job. How do you go about fixing it? thanks again for the feedback (fordmods is great! )

need to find this douvlacky
If it's completely faulty then needs to be replaced, if it needs adjusting then just screw it in or out as far as you need to. to pull it out, locate it in the pedal box where the stop is on the brake pedal, disconect it from the wiring harness (simple clip), and unscrew it from the pedal box. Hope this helps and i am assuming that all e-series are the same or similar (this switch is out of my eb)

if you hit the brake long enough (with a faulty brake switch) the car will still disengage the cruise.

Happy: is that to do with the brake pressure switch on the master cylinder?
(mines not wired up to that lol)

EFFalcon wrote: Happy: is that to do with the brake pressure switch on the master cylinder? Yes, the switch that is mounted near the front of the master cylinder, with the connector facing the engine is meant to be a backup for the main brake light switch for disengaging the cruise control.
(mines not wired up to that lol)

The EF-EL brake switch has no adjustment. snap0964 wrote: EFFalcon wrote: Happy: is that to do with the brake pressure switch on the master cylinder? Lights up brake fail warning light on cluster.

There are two pressure switches on an EF ford master cylinder with factory cruise installed.
The one towards the middle underside and pointing down is for a brake failure warning. The one near the front and pointing out the side is for the cruise control and is a backup to the brake peddel switch. This switch must be installed for the cruise control to work and is normally closed so send 12V to the module. When you press the brake this switch goes open and cuts the 12V signal to the module. If your brake peddel switch doesn't work, this switch should cut the cruise control, but i am not sure how much brake pressure is needed to open the switch. As already stated, check you brake peddel switch (under the dash) by looking for a red glow coming from the brake lights when you lightly touch the peddle (easier if parked with rear towards a wall or garage door. If the lights don't come on or intermittantly come on or require a firm pedle push to come on, then thisis your problem. With fords, it seems that this brake check should be done every morning as a matter of course. These switches are not the most reliable and probably should have required a recall and propor fix at fords expense Cheers. |
