Turbo_ghia, that's more or less exactly what I want... Cheers for the picture.
I got a fella at work that's a pretty highly certified stainless welder, so he'll probably be good enough I hope lol

I don't want to get involved with that sort of stuff...

If you aren't even going to retune don't waste your time with a custom manifold. Make a CAI, get cam and be done with it.

As far as turboghia's set up is concerned, for the cost/pita of changing it around won't be worth any gain you might have from taking out the 180degree turn where not required for turbo plumbing. If it was a worked engine might be different, but then you wouldn't be wasting time playing with the standard manifold.

On the cheap you can modify your air intake (BA tube off t/b & straight pipe to air box, bigger snorkel/additional airbox inlet, fresh K&N panel filter if yours is old and rank).

Best bang for your buck on the cheap will be a cam change and j3 tune. It isn't exactly 'cheap' but is definately in the cheap end of mods. I think AU ecu's don't like running aftermarket cams, hence needing a j3 chip and tune. I think if you talked to Jason (TI performance) he may be able to load a tune onto a chip to suit cam specs that should run okay. Alternatively I think he has a place in Gympie that does custom tunes.

A little more expensive but good bang for buck will be diff gear swap if your car is auto.

A little more expensive again would be a manual conversion...I think I got my AU manual conversion for under $1000 including a new clutch and doing all work myself. I got lucky and the box had been recently rebuilt but remember buying second hand is a lucky dip.

if its auto also doing the shift kit mod would help with getting rid of the stock sloppy gear changes

haha no such luck, its a manual VCT... but yeah, im thinking that a cam and tune might be the best way to go... super rough guess on how much a cam, ecu, chip, tune would set me back?
though im also thinking that before i get to that stage... maybe just go all handling/appearance till i get out onto my opens... then a nice supercharger package from raptor.

im regularly up in gympie, do you remember the name of the place that he works out of there? Still called TI Performace or not?

imo i cant see it making a lot of difference, the intake is fairly well balanced to start with.. but it is restrictive.
Make something up that'll incorporate individual throttle bodies with say 6 inch trumpets.

+1
I hear that'd the best way to go...

ITBs make me drool a little bit.

you can disable the vct and use a standard au cam and cam gear then you can use the aftermarket au intech cams

yea and there not even true vct cams, the are vct cams that have been re ground and the vct gear has been locked making the vct non operationable anymore..

cheaper to fit a non vct cam and cam gear to the vct head and get the same result at 1/3 of the cost.......

Reading dsyfer's thread makes me a little scared of doing an ITB project. though i am thinking about a dual TB idea to use before i can get the supercharger...

hmm... so there is no real way to upgrade the cam AND use the VCT? thats how i am understanding that...

well you can do to it what you would do to a non vct engine..
mine is a vct engine that has a wade non vct cam and vernea gear in it, at the end of the day the vct engines are more for down low drivabillity and economy..
look at all the big power dohc engines, there vct gears are removed and vernea gears are fitted..
