seen an absolute ripper ealier on this evening. seen a great looking hilux ute tonite fitted with a turbo ecotec v6, hothouse green paint and a massive set of boyds. asked what suspension he had used in it (thought it may have be bagged) this clown was so lazy with the suspension he cut a coil out of the middle of the front springs and has attempted to weld the cuts. some people will never cease to amaze me

well i welded the top leaf on a set of trailer springs about 12 years ago using the correct rods ( dont ask me what they were cant remember they were recomeded by a guy that knows ) anyway the springs are still on the trailer still working and carted tons of stufff including livestock that insist on wandering around in the trailer while driving and done probably 60,000 k's and still ok , however that is leaf springs not coil, there are rods for the job, it was the top leaf about 4 inches from the mount.

but now that hes put all that heat into it, its f**k. You cant weld a treated spring unless you bevel it f**k nice and then re treat it again which i think was 4 hours at something like 400c.
So im guessing he hasnt done that which would even cost more than getting lowered springs. As for the leaf springs if im picturing where you welded it correctly there wouldnt be much movement for it to stress

The top leaf on leaf spring is the most important. It has the eye on the end of it, but the second leaf also supports that and acts as a fail safe if it cracks. But i still wouldnt be repairing springs... Theyre not that expensive!

If there was an accident & wasn't his fault, he can kiss his insurance goodbye.

thats nothing. theres a tool driving an EF around in perth with NO coils at all. The rear end is that fucekn low he had to take off his alloy 18's or whatever they are and put on stockies. I couldnt beleive my eyes, considering there are cops everwhere on cruises!!!!!!!! This guy also has an intercooler but no forced induction.. go figure. |
