Take a look at Best Fords, I got this copy a week ago. This info came from Brendan Mock at JMM (Jim Mock Motorsport).

Might have a go, need to do the head gasket on the next few weeks so this looks like it might be worth a go. what advantages will this give? sorry I know its a dump question but I'm just starting out with all the engine mod stuff.

Get a 91AA head and do the work before you pull yours apart. I should be able to get you a good price on your head work (facing ect.).

I did my head myself. You do need to be careful for where you remove the material from. Its not how much you remove, but where you remove it from, and port matching helps a lot.
The top cyl head is my ported one, and the one below it is a 94 EF cyl head.

I've been doing it at home for years, I like doing alloy heads, doesn't take as long, and with cast iron heads, its easier to get a smooth finish. I have done motorbike heads too.

that protruding edge doesnt need to be removed unless your going turbo, by removing that edge u lose compression, i have half of that edge taken out but not the whole lot due to the bigger valve hitting it so they were cut in half.

Look mate im not here to argue with you or knock JMM, all i know is removing that hump in the combustion chamber u lose compressiion!!
ANother big company in qld I THINK recommend u dont remove that hump in the head. Have a look at Autospeed articles theres a big right up on head work for i6 eb threw to Au, my egdes have been half taken out pretty much all of it only to fit the extra size of the exhuast valve. Im just telling you what i know and what ive been told, who knows the reason why JMM ported the head like that??? do u know??? maybe that head was going on a car to be turboe'dd u dont know!, just cos they ported the head like that doesnt mean u go out and do the same?? would they give away there top secrets in a magazine i think they know better than that especially the way they are with there cams everything is top secret mate, if u had a good thing going would u tell everyone the key?? |

No the engine was not for a turbo.
JMM are not the only people to recommend the ED head.

the reson the ridge is removed is because its is a restriction to air flow. i think thats pretty obvious when looking at it.
heres another DIY 4l porting article http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_1792/article.html
