Hey everyone. I have scored some ef thermos and are going to put them into my eb. I got the 0404 davies craig thermatic switch kid (the one that does aircon also). I am just wondering which wire I should tap into so the fan knows when the aircon clutch is activated. Would the aircon fuse only be live when the clutch is engaged?
Any help would be great

Yes it is the large blue one thats easy to see. What I did on mine, is that I wired only one thermo fan to come on (exhaust side) just like they do on factory cars. When two come on, there was serious drain on altenator. P.S, you'll need three relays to run it like that. Can supply simple wiring diagram if you wish. |

if you wire them both to come on with the air con your air con compressor will drag less, be more efficient and colder

The thermo fans actually have nothing to do with making air con cooler. Basically, if car is stationary, thermos will draw air over the condenser to help it cool down, but when car is moving, fan will come on to help maintain engine temp as to not overheat, especially in summer. But like I said, when I had two fans come on with aircon, the volts guage would drop to about 10volts, and with sub cranking, would actually make car drive erratically, like missing down changes at low speed, and missing, so I copied the factory way of doing it and run one only. Having said that, I believe the EF/L had a higher output alternator (not sure, correct me if wrong) than EA-D and wouldn't drop voltage so much. I'm considering installing said alternator to my car to keep voltage up with aircon, stereo and headlights on at idle engine speeds (when rpms are up, works well) Cheers |

Any help would be great P.S The blue wire is just and activation switch wire, does not actually run the fans. Would go into relay just to switch fans on. You might already know that, but I thought i'd let you know just in case. |

Cheers ar yes they do. the cooler the condensor the lower the head pressure. the lower the head pressure the less the compressor has to work, the more stable the tx valve becomes thus lowering the suction pressure in the evaporator. cooler evaporator = cooler air at the vents. it might only be a 3-5 degree difference but if your a/c cycles to 8 degrees comfortably instead of working to 12 then u'll notice the difference. of course this is provided the rheostat isnt set to 12 degrees stick a thermometer in your vents. run your a/c up until it's cycling and run a garden hose over the condensor. the thermometer will take downward spike. even better if u have guages, watch the pressures drop instantly when u run the hose over it.
