Gday guys, I recently took my EB Fairmont in to get the aircon diagnosed (not cold anymore) and they found it leaking behind the dash and at the compressor, also needs to be retrofitted (?) with new gas. For this they quoted me $1000 to fix.... does this sound right?
I'm not keen on spending what is most likely the value of the car to get the aircon fixed so is there a cheaper solution for me? Seems to me it'll be easier to just buy another EB with working aircon but I dunno. Where exactly do these things fail behind the dash? Cheers Jason.

Generally the leak behind the dash is from the evaporator. To replace this most of the dash has to come out, that is where the cost is in the labour. If you can do most of the labour and just get them to connect things up and re-gas it will be a lot cheaper.
