Hi there all,
Does anyone know how much difference there is in fuel economy for a 6 cyl to a V8 model in a BA series ghia ??? I'm looking at getting a second hand one next year with low kms (saving about $20,000 from new). I know they use more fuel (6 cyl) from the old EL series Ghias, but I got told that they are nearly on par with the V8. So my question is, besides having 182kw's for the 6 and 220kw's for the 8, is it true that they are just about the same economy ??? By the way, why is a V8 Ba Ghia cheaper to insure than a 6 cyl ?? I would of thought it was the other way around? Many thanks for your feedback, |

Definatly go the v8 as i wasnt happy with the sixes reliability/power down low etc and a v8 fairmont gia would be awsome. Fuel economy wise the extra for an 8 is bugger all as the six l had was pretty thirsty compared to my previous au xr8.

The V8 will cost more to insure and more to run but will be a better street performer with lots of low down torque.
The Ghia V8 is not a good rever limited to 5250rpm and needs decent exhaust badly. The cost of petrol and insurance will not be huge if you will enjoy an 8 more than a 6. |

well depends on money i guess the 6cl arnt that bad still have good low down torque and do the giah get a lsd if they do then getting power down wont be bad. also chip them exhaust change intake and u will get good power from the 6

I would much rather have the 6 i mean i know that it's easier on my wallet and it performs great and plus i know that it would be much easier to modify perfomance wise. Plus the money i save on a 6 over an 8 i can use for somthing else ie. insurance, rims or perfomance upgrades.
Well that's my 2c

As a every day car the 6 would be cheaper to maintain in service and parts. But I love the way V8's sound and the low down grunt and that alone would make me take the 8. Pity they don't offer the turbo 6 as a option on the fairmont ghia. Power and comfort

I've had Ford NA 6's, and an 8. Short of having a turbo'ed 6, I wouldn't bother with one again. The money for the 8 over the 6 is easily worth it. Fuel difference is negligible, anyway.

Cool...I think I know what I might go for now. The 8. I was a bit worried that I'd get a 6 and the 8 would use roughly the same amount of fuel but have heaps more power from start. By the way, I got prices from the NRMA and they quoted me (and yes I got them to check again) the V8 for some stupid reason is CHEAPER to insure than the 6. Why?? I don't know?? XR8 is dearer but the V8 Ghia.....to the ghia 6.....cheaper !
I guess you have to have a Ford V8 sometime in your life huh? Many thanks guy's and gal's, you helped me out heaps..... |

probably because most BA Ghias are V8's.. so replacement of a 6 is harder

Straying a little from the topic, can you explain your comment, xpression? I don't understand it at all.
Replacing body parts is all the same, V8 or otherwise. And the parts on the 6 would be the same as any other falcon... And I'm sure the 6 would be depreciating much faster. |

In the E Series, between the I6 and 8, the I6 is the better choice due to fuel efficiency and the lack of much difference in kw output.. However, in this case they share similar fuel consumptions and the 8 is quite a bit more powerful. I am not sure what these sound like, but it has to be better than the 6...

personally, the only reason i'd see to get the 6 would be for the cheaper rego costs......... but it also depends on the driving you do...... city, i'd go the 6, highway i'd get the 8

That also goes for the series 1 AU ghias as well. Thats why I picked the 6. I've heard a few BA xr8's with modified exhaust.s & they sound tough ghiaman |
