Hey all
Is it possible to decode the engine number? The number is different from the one on the chassis and I would like to know where and what it came from. The mechanic suspects it to be stolen. I have already done a vin check on the vicroads website and the engine number seems to be the same as the chassis number there. (so it hasn't been registered with the different number) Can anyone please direct me to a forum too that may help if possible. Thanks |

So the Engine Number doesn't match the ID plate?
BUT The engine number matches the Rego Sticker? If So: Who cares. Its been replaced. If not: Vic Roads HAS the current engine number that is in your car, and its mated to your current Chassis? - Who cares, its mated to that car and 'not stolen'. IF: The Engine Number stamped on the block is NOT on the Compliance Plate, and is Not on the Rego Sticker and Is Not on Vic-Roads database then you need to have it changed. You will be asked for a receipt. You will be asked if you changed it. You should have the chassis number and engine number on your generic receipt when you bought the car. If not, Vic-Roads can check if its stolen. Vic-Roads can tell you what engine the car has come from and its year, model color etc (with a bit of sweet talking) You could have bought a car with a stolen engine. You should have checked it. You could be charged with receiving stolen goods (Very Very - VERY unlikely) Don't stress its a 90's i6 falcon motor, not a Bugatti. If its stolen it'll prolly be overlooked and and slapped on the rego sticker. end off, no-one wants paperwork.

But i think the latter is the case: The engine block no. is different to the ID plates and rego sticker and is 'not' in the vicroads database. Might make a trip down to burwood to get things checked out anyway, just in case. |
