I can not stress this enough. Be nice, friendly and forthcoming with the people. Also make sure your car is CLEAN inside and outside. If they think you're not a hoon and take pride in and take care of your car... then they're more likely to let things slide.

The SA Regency guys are alright as long as you keep away from what they are doing - just let them do what they need to.

I have taken several defected cars through there for other people and have not had too much hassle.
They do check everything right down to noise levels and emmissions, but never had one check the ECU.

did the cops tell you what minimum legal height was. i took my car through when i bought it as i got it from n.s.w. and it didn't pass as it was 320 all round. they told me 335 all round was minimum and so got kings to suit. when i finished changing it over the rear dropped down to bang on 335 and i was paranoid it would settle down a bit more on the drive out so spare wheel came out and gave it a good thrash so fuel tank was empty. long story short, it got passed with front at 345 and rear 335.

i've heard that the cops have a diff set of heights for min legal height though.

hope it all goes well for you in there.

Hey i got booked for exactly the same thing :) And yes - also taking mine to regency inspection station.

You'll be booked in for a 40 minute inspection - will be a general roadworthy check.

The heights are the "eyebrow" heights - distance from centre of wheel to bottom of quarter panel. Measure ment based on the fact you're not allowed to lower more than 30% from stock...

Its 100mm or a "coke can" from the lowest point of car down here in Vic, which in my EF fairmont, is taken from the 1st muffler as they seem to hang low a fair bit.....but with ultra low rear, havnt been hassled as yet...touch wood....

For WA it's minimum clearance 100mm and can't lower more than 30% of original ride height.

Another couple of tips:
As said be nice
If you can find a babys seat throw it in the back and tell him that you think its worth having a nice neat safe car if you are gunna drive round with a baby in the back (this works take my word for it!)
If you've gat a hot missus get her to take it in while she is wearing f**k.
Keep it clean and tidy.

All of the above have worked for me on at least one occasion. The one with the missus was a scream!! That was to get a defect lifted out side a cop station. The cops inside fell over each other to go out and take the sticker off!!
