I'm not real sure about the header design business - but the notion of going twin system actually has technical merit IMO. A 2.5 system is a lot of gas column - there's a lot of inertia involved - ie. it is relatively heavy to get moving faster and even at low flow speed carries a fair bit of momentum - anyone for a bit of excessive scavenging? - this explains comments about loss of bottom end - backpressure IS bad - but so is attenuating the cylinders.
When you think about it, big bore systems are actually almost certain to be complete basket cases as far as final response pressures are concerned. Also, from memory I'm sure the whole idea of big bore single systems becoming popular back in the 80's was because they were affordable for Bogans - not necessarily for any real technical merit... They also sound like fecking trucks. I've been thinking for a while now that a couple of smaller diameter pipes would be a much better prospect - each column will be easier to accelerate as well as carry less momentum so create less attenuation at low rpm. Personally I'd like to try a 1 3/4 or even (gasp!! ) 1.5 twin system off long, small diameter primary headers... Maybe old bas tards of the classic era knew something we've all forgotten... I have no idea what the sound would be like.
