Hey i work on a lot of falcons and have found that the ratios vary a lot between the models. i have an el fairmont and i got it with a 3.23 single spinner. i plan on changing to a 3.45 XR8 LSD eventually. i was just wondering if anyone else has found that they have different gears from the standard 3.08 diffs?

i have a 3.23 v8 single spinner, according to the boys at ford some time in july 92, ford swapped over to the v8 diff instead of the I6 diff, the only difference is the v8 one is slightly stronger.

3.08 was only the standard in later model e-series gli's. 2.77, 2.92, 3.08, 3.23, 3.27, and 3.45 are all used depending on model.

I change from a 3.08 single spinner to 3.23 LSD. I didn't change the speedo module (couldn't bother) so I just used a simple calc. to figure out rpm over speed as follows:
3.08 diff @ 100kph = 1750 rpm so.... 1750rpm (100kph) / 3.08 = 568.1818 (32.4675) 568.1818 (32.4675) x 3.23 = 1835rpm (104.87kph) so the result is when my speedo says 105, I'm doing 100 @ 1835rpm. I hope that is simple to understand.

Ay if your gonna run with 18'' wheels you'd be better of with even shorter ratio than 3.45 coz of your distance travelled per wheel rotation. If you run 3.45 diff with 18'' wheels its a similar ratio to 15'' wheels runnin 3.08 diff. your losin out on take off coz of your wheel diameter.

does anyone know where to get 3.45 gears new.
If i was to go from a 3.23ss to a 3.47lsd i cant use any of the old diff can i? So i cant just throw in gears and make em both spin. How about if i had a 2.92 and got 3.47 gears?

yeah thanx buddy. 3.7 gears mite be the way to go. but i dont wanna spend too much money on this car i want a stockie au 5 litre. make a nice sleeper out of it. you can get new diff gears from preston diffs and trans but they won't be cheap. i got quoted $1200 or sumfin a new complete assembly.

I might be wrong, but of the top of my head -
3.08 for auto gli 3.23 for manual GLi's 3.23 for fairmonts, futuras, and XR8's 3.45 for XR6
