Hey, I own an AU, so I can bash it all I want, be it an XR I still have the right to. As for the ef's, they are pretty horrid compared to an AU, which to my understanding was the majority of the debate 5 years ago in this thread

i had 2 races at 2 sets of lights in a row the other night with a white EL with 17"s and monster tacho and the works and my busted a** ED has 17"s and a huge exhaust leak, CAI and no front bar and i blitz'd him 2 times to about 120. i thought ef/el's went abit better than a 350K + ED......

he was definatly flat to the floor trying. his car seemed though it was short shifting and mine was shifting about 2 grand higher. i had the power switch flicked and maybe he was kicking around in economy? also my car was completely empty while his sounded like he had a boot full of stereo goodies

Hey - All our petrol in NZ is unleaded. Maybe THAT is why you Aussies have to have CAT's and we don't?
You can get 91, 95 and 98 ron mind you. And yes, you do notice a difference between them when put in your six cylinder. No way I'd ever run 91 - even though it's cheaper you use more of it, so..... And hey - One last thing on this --- I get so p****d when I keep hearing people on TV say that your fuel economy gets a lot worse for every few Kmh over 100km/h. I have a bloody trip computer, which tells me exactly how much fuel I am sending through the engine per 100 km. It's not that tricky to see that at 160km/h I am using 8L/100km and at 100km/h I am using 8L/100km too. Simply put - As these motors are "large" and torquey and fifth gear is taller than 1:1 ratio, you can cruise along barely touching the throttle at 160km/h and use less petrol than you would at 100km/h in some instances. Another thing to note is that the large cars actually do okay on fuel consumption when compared to smaller engines as we only have to do 1800 rpm to haul our trailers full of camping gear up hills at 90km/h where as those Soobie and Nissans have to do 3400 rpm with their foot pushing further towards the floor. Whatever. Can some moderator or other please give me a warning for pushing the boundaries of staying on topic....? Cheers. |

we only have unleaded fuel as well, and we have the same octane fuels as you just said. I only put BP ultimate 98 in my car as its tuned for it. I wont touch Shell V-power crap

BP Ultimate 98 is good. I wouldn't touch any other brand for premium either. If you want to make some real gains though change injectors and fuel pump and remap computer and run E85

Hmmm. I use BP Ultimate 98 with 300kpa (3 bar) EL XR6 fuel regulator, aftermarket pump, new filter, new lines, and AU3 XR6 injectors (the ones with four holes rather than E series one hole), along with telling Jason about my set up when he created the J3 tune for me... It works okay with the Tickford head and Wade 1673 cam... Seems like a pretty common setup on this site nowadays...
