Hi Guys
Just though id bring this up even though it is very embaressing. I have an Au fairmont series 1. Had a drag at the lights with a mazda 626. Was very surprised to find that my car just barely kept with him. I did have the car on power and it still F***ing didnt make a difference. Pretty disappointed with the car. Any ideas how and where to start the mods. Currently has a 2.5 inch after the cat and dats da only mod. I woulda killed myself if i lost to a holden. Help me out here

cams chip yer, id say cam, extractors, higher diff ratio,. however LSD isnt nec, it only helps when u got traction issues, chip prolly wont do much either unless you got a few mods under your belt.

if its the newer style 626 say 98 model then those things beleive it or not have some balls behind em especially if theyre manual. pretty sure theyre a 3.0 6

626's are v6's if im not mistaken...
and they are alot like the honda legena which is a 2.7L v6, and those things fly. also, i know that some 626's that are slightly older (earlier 90's) came stock with turbo. maybe you raced a turbo 626?

The last 626 to come out with a V6 was the 92-95 626/Telstar (the last telstar).
They had a 2.5 V6 which was good for 125kw and with a 5sp box pulled 0-100 in 8.6sec (wheels figures). They were a great car and felt quicker than they were. The motor in em was really smooth and the whole package felt really well put together. They liked a rev to make power tho. If it was one of these that you were racing then I am not surprised that you only just kept up with it. It would be about the same pace as a basically original AU 4.0l.

Get rid of your AU and get an EF with some mods -at least it will go hard AND look good

It's hard to get more speed off the line.
A standard AU actually drops off power in high Revs, so Power probably wouldn't help much. Have you tried (don't do this too many times in a row) giving it some Revs (say 1.5-2K or whatever feels OK) with your foot on the Brake and then releasing the brake when you plant the accelerator. Doing this loads up the torque converter. Can get you a quicker takeoff. Can do bad things to your brakes if you do it too many times though:) Harder suspension can stop it from bogging down off the line, but probably not an issue in a stock car. I think a CAM and Diff change would be the best bang for buck to start with. Good luck. |

Stalling up doesn't do harm to the brakes, unless you actually break traction in the rear, and turn from stalling to standstilling...
It's not a good idea to sit there stalling it up for 10 minutes though, I guess the torque converter would start to heat up a bit.
