Gday all how we going ???
O.K i own an EA2 Fairmont Ghia Very good car love it and all, BUT ! for some very strange reason Dizzy's on this thing keep failing im on my 4th one now over a period of 1 Year, we've owned the car since 1996, "CRAZY" ? ? Now what i want to know is What could be the symptom of this problem ?? IF anyone knows, pleeeeeease let me know ! Thanks |

My brother went through this recently on his EL, apparently theres a shaft that is a sort of shorter-pseudo-cam and when they get worn they start taking out dizzys.
This is third hand info so I'm not sure if its correct or what, but someone else with a bit more knowledge of the issue will more than likely correct it. |

This is that part youre talking about... it's called an auxillary shaft and this is what happens when they fail.

if the gear on the dizzy fails there is no point just changing the dizzy as the aux shaft will just keep chewing the dizzys out.. as you can see in the above pic the aux shaft is f**k.. a fairly large job to replace.. |

or do you meen the dizzy failed as in tfi module fail??(no spark)
as ive noticed the cheap aftermarket dizzys dont last that long.. |

For warranty on those dizzy's, the ignition coils must be replaced too, and sometimes the H.T. leads too.

AUX input shaft, my brother knows all about them lol went through 2 of them and 3 dizzys, and then a oil pump he had the ute for 8 months spent 6 in a workshop

You must be using aftermarket dizzies.
They are s**t. You have to get new genuine bosch units & bosch coil DON'T USE THE AFTERMARKET ONES. As an auto electrician i used the aftermarket ones & most of them have come back under warranty. I always use the bosch units & never seen the customer again for the same problem.

Troyman, did that aux shaft use a high volume, high pressure oil pump. Thats a shocker
I returned one of those aftermarket dizzys after seeing that the chopper wheel rubbing on the hall effect sensor from new. I checked several in the boxes at Coventries and they all rubbed?????.

I checked several in the boxes at Coventries and they all rubbed?????. thats not my pic.. but i have had it happen the shaft in the dizzy had 2 much side to side play and the chopper wheel rubbing on the hall effect sensor and the gears started to bind.. it got to the point where the rotor button was touching the posts in the dizzy cap. and it failed. so i just put another dizzy in and it just started chewing out dizzys every month or so and after 4 dizzys there was no more gear left on the aux shaft..as the damage to the aux shaft had already been done.. |

not really lol you will still have a coilpack cam angle sensor failure at some time or another... |

That aux shaft pic was courtesy of me, and yes I can tell you first hand it's a fairl big job for a part that only costs $70.
