ive searched and i couldnt find anything to what i was after...maybe i was just typing the wrong things
but i just spent $280 on painting some side skirts and when i get enough money the rest of the kit will be coming and when it comes i dont really want to spend f**k loads of money on painting so is there anyway i can do it myself from home and if so could someone tell me how and what i need please? thanks in advance

Then you need to know how to prep your surface if it hasn't been done so and also need to know how to blend the colour to the rest of the car or else you will get a 2 tone body. I would send it to a professional to do it if you don't have the time, know how or equipment. If you have time, then you can always experiment yourself, but it is a tedious task. It is all in the preparation work of the surface to be painted...if that's good the spray should be relatively easy.

when i got my old kit done cost me around 1000 mark to be painted and fitted

ive got a grill that i need repainting, would a can of touch up paint do the job? im guessing a proffesional would charge a fair whack to paint just a grill?

should do, just get some plastic primer, touch up can in ur colour and some clear coat
Just make sure you do it on a test peace first

Spray Painters do a 4 year apprenticeship to learn the art, so don't expect to do a magic job on your first attempt.. There are plenty of tutorials on Google specifically for the beginner to point you in the right direction. But you need practice & more practice to do it properly. It is quite involved & it would take many pages to write a how to here & that wouldn't guarantee that you would be able to do a good job. I'm not saying not to have a go,, but you have to realize that the $2000 dollar paint jobs you see on cars cannot be achieved by a noob on his first, second or third attempt. But I can tell you that it will cost you at least $500 minimum just for paint & consumables and that is doing it on the cheap and that is without adding in the cost to buy or hire spray guns & a compressor. |

Well I painted my side skirts.
Only cost me $40. 2 sheets of sand paper. 180grit non clog and 400grit non clog. 1 can of white primer. 1 can of stark white. Came up fine. Obviously the colours arnt EXACTLY a match. But no ones noticed but me. Altho I should have done 2 cans of colour and then a clear as they do need a redo now. But im gonna take them off and bog the dammage.sand it all back and have another go. |

Also white can be done cheaply since it is easier to blend...if required at all. Try doing the side skirt when your car is a red, blue or green...it would be much harder and the difference in shade is much more noticeable.

You should always buy more than you need when Spray painting, even when you are using spray cans. Not only is it cheaper to buy in bulk but you always have enough to do the job properly & any touch-ups as well. Remember that even the best painters stuff it up occasionally & some sections need to be re-done and it helps to have that extra paint on hand. It would be OK to do Skirts with a Spray can & I am happy yours turned out good, but IMO bumpers are a different matter, you really need a gun to do big areas successfully. |

that and side skirts don't have a flat surface that is meant to cleanly join to another panel.
front bars join with minimal panel gap (when fitted properly) and if theres a difference in finish it can be highly noticable. white is almost forgiving when it comes to reflections. saying that, i say give it a crack.

Well even if you prep it really well and give it a go. Propper paint code and coats and drying times. If its not perfect atleast you've saved a d**k of cash and done it your self.

mate if your never sprayed paint before don't attempt it!
take it from someone who has been painting for quite a few years now. cause if your car is in 2k and you paint bumpers and so on in acyl, the finishes are so different and will look s**t! save yourself the hard ache and let some one who knows what there doing do it.
