Hi

Just wondering how much it would cost roughly to do a dizzy set up on an EF motor and if its worth doing as appose to running the coil pack?..

The motor will be running a turbo set up soon, and just wondering what would be better to run, if so why, and also how much to convert to dizzy..

Thank you!..

I woudln't think it would be necessary..

XR6T's run coil packs, Skylines run coil packs, Supras run coil packs. the are all turbo 6's.

How about doing an "EL" conversion - they got rid of the EDIS coil pack and went to a TFI distributor type ignition...

Problems with the EF ignition have been well documented in the past - after all ford didn't turf it to put a different system on the EL for nothing! (Just try and get them to admit that tho! LOL)

Maybe go to an AU setup.. Ford only put a TFI dizzy on the EL to cut costs so they could spend it on the AU development.

Your right there were a few problems with the EF setup, but the AU is much better from what I've heard.

If your going turbo, then you'll need an aftermarket ECU anyway, so I'd stick with the EDIS, the advantage of TFI is you can adjust your base timeing, which you can do with EDIS and aftermarket ECU anyway.

stick with the coil packs and if your planning to run a wolf with the turbo then go to http://www.mwignitions.com/ and order some of their ignitors for around the $200 mark. Thats what ive done and in about 2 months ill be able to let you know how they go.

All true - I wonder what the "magic fix" was for the AU (and later?) series.
And if the system could be retrofitted to the EF?

Hmmm, wonder if the missus would notice if I got a BA/BF turbo in there.... :)
BF engine with the new 6sp Auto... Sexy. Clubby hunting in a EF with stock hubcaps anyone?

I think it was the brand of the coil packs, they went to Bosch or something. Good better Bosch ;)

they are bosch in au and ef.
i don't know what everyone else believes, but i think ford changed it for a cost-cutting reason.

Fair 'nuff.

Why are there so many problems with the EF (Both from what I have read or been told by "those in the know") they have a bad rep for being tempermental - Mine feels more so than most!

Whereas - the AU I haven't really heard much at all??? Apart from "Yeah she ugly mate!"

There must be something different? Maybe THAT snout lets in more cold air to the engine bay <giggle>.

Is the AU still a cast iron block? is the BA for that matter? (I have no idea)

I can confirm both the original and replacement coil packs in my EF are bosch.
