You can do it bradley4567 way, I have seen it done and i have tried and failed on a
mazda 323. BUT BE WARNED: If it goes pear shaped it will be motor out and maybe a total strip down. Is it worth the chance for an extra couple of minutes to take the pump off and remove the tensioner. |

no i didnt put silicon on the tensioner! but ive looked at the chain tensioner and i cant seem to see any oil on it but ill have a better look, what type of silicon should i use???
and where does it go? im guessing around the bolt that looses the chain's tension!

Have you checked that the rocker cover seal is correctly placed. Sometimes they bulge out when refitting the cover to the head especially at the rear where you cant see easily.
When replacing the tensioner I use teflon tape as used on household plumbing. A lot cheaper than buying a tube of silicone. Probably low risk, but I'm a bit cautious about putting silicone on the tensioner threads. Murphy's law ...sure as eggs, silicone will end up into the oil port that feeds the tensioner.
