Hey guys, just wanted to know, I've read heaps of posts here about converting my log manifold with an EL BBM, like how you need EL ECU and so on, but all I get on the wiring front is, just lengthen a few wires! Which wires
Theres a few fellas here who have done this, and would really appreciate some extra info. Also, if someone could make a doco on it, it would be sweet, imagine all of the boxcars driving around with BBM's. Also, another quickie, knowing that there are some differences in the actual engines, albeit minor, would the gains be noticeable, especially low down. Don't want to go faster, just want more low down grunt when towing and after some extra economy, because my mates EF2 is better at the pump. And just one more, i promise , what intake tube leading to the throttle body should I get, EF, EL or AU. Cheers guys |

Any ideas on what can be done. if I get a few pointers, I'll make a doco myself with piccies. (Get SLR digital working under Ford bonnet, Sweet)

You could use a Jaycar shift light and relays,as I sugested in an other post.

hi
you can use a jaycar rpm switch but its a waste of time because as i and others have learnt the timing and fuel maps are different from eb to el so if you use the el bbm with the eb ecu when the manifold is on long runners it will ping . you can retard your timing to stop the pinging but you will loose all the power you try to gain by fitting the bbm in the first place... so i would suggest you should go the el ecu aswell so you can get the most out of the bbm conversion... |

Troyman, you're a champ, great info and write up.
OK, I've purchased an EL BBM, EL airbox, AU intake tube, EL Thermostat housing, and now just need the EL auto ECU with plug. I'm assuming thats it. And going by the fact I have ED with Smartlock, I don't need to worry about that side of things. Also, a while ago I fitted EL thermos, so what I should do with the thermo wire is connect that to the relays, right, because I'm just assuming that would only be a trigger, basically on off, but hopefully 12V to switch relays on. And would the engine temp and trans temp be already be sent to ECU with my loom? Might not even need those wires, correct? And I know you've mentioned about cruise probably not working, but I'm not sure if EF EL setup would fit because it's electronic, as EA-D are vacuum operated . If I get it working, I'll be sure to help others. Once again, thanks heaps for your help, very good info. Cheers. |

no wories mate
you can still use the ecu plug from the ea to ed you just have to add a few pins with wire.. you can also hook up the thermo fans to the ecu ,, but i still havnt hooked mine up yet lol... |

Yeah cool, when I do it in a few weeks, I'll let you know how I went. And ECU controlled thermos must be better than Davies Craig switch.
Once again, Thanks. |

Point taken about the pinging but I Forgot to mention mines chipped so that is not a problem.I had more issues with stalling then pinging.Especially with the air con on.It was to lean once turned off then it would go rich when it cycled back in,

Luke 39, did you need to change the heater pipe under manifold, or you use your original one?

Just a quick question before I begin conversion, does the heater pipe running from the water pump around back of engine REALLY need to be changed, or can it be left there and moved a little bit instead? Because it looks like a prick of a job to remove and change.
Cheers Mark. |

hi
well you can but you will have to bend the pipe downwards to clear the bbm.. it can be done but if the pipe creases or cracks you will have to replace it anyway... i have seen a el with a rubber heater hose that ran the whole way around from the water pump but i would be worried that the heat from the exhaust would melt the hose.... |

Thanks TROYMAN, will get an EL heater pipe, but if it fits without having to change it over, well one less thing to do.
If not, I'll have it there ready to change in anycase. Cheers. |

if you have it there ready to change you should do it.
i done the conversion without it & i'm waiting for the pipe to open up. if you have the pipe just change it, pack it full of ultra blue & it won't leak.
