Do au head gaskets just bolt straight on or do you need to coat them in gasket spray like copper ones.First time ive had anything to do with steel gaskets.

use hylomar spray on the gasket, even though its coated, and do not run coolant (only straight water) for the first few days / week

I don't know were you guys get your information from new bolts new gasket. New bolts stretch, new gasket will thin out but steel gaskets don't thin out because the steel gaskets are pre pressed. I think with a steel gasket when the new head bolts stretch will it still seal properly i don't know because i have never used a steel gasket but will use one with the new ported head soon that's what i like to know.

the bolts are TTY bolts, they really can only be used once, unlike the older motors where you could reuse the bolts over and over. Thats why you need a degree wheel to 'tension' the bolts. New bolts will stretch slightly, but this is taken into account when tensioning (ie 90 degrees). Old bolts can stretch more to the point they will snap.

A lot of the old school donks had tin head gaskets. They used to use "Silver Frost" paint to seal them. These were still used in the 70's.

and they still use them on motor bikes .with steel gaskets coated in silver frost. ive done a few four stroke head gaskets and used the old ones and coated them in silver frost with no problems.
