Does this work for ef falcons without a trip computer?

Ever wanted a digital tacho? Ever wanted a digital speedo? Ever wanted to know Litres of Fuel to empty?? - Then here is your answer!

"Hidden in your odometer - under the speedo/tacho (orange coloured) - is an 18 in 1 computer read out, used by ford mechanics to diagnose problems with your car. - It also is used to run trip computers in certain Falcons, Fairlanes & LTDs. - Handy to know when you want to test how much fuel you have left and check when your last service was! In fact it has 18 functions in all, - some of which I am not sure exactly the function of - but half of them are pretty cool! Cruising around town with a digital speedo or digital gear select display rocks!!!" Sounds alright by us...

"If you are buying an EF/EL soon, you should run this program to look at things like last service, average fuel use. You can soon tell if the person has been a hoon or has ever serviced the vehicle as they probably claim to. - Here are the steps to turning your computer on. I recommend you don’t run it all the time because I have had the odd problem, but its fun to look at and very handy."

"The instructions seem tedious but believe me they work.

1. Turn your EF or EL falcon to the first click (acc) and leave keys in ignition
2. Hold down the odometer reset button for 10 seconds
3. After the ten seconds, keep the odometer button pushed in but turn your keys onto ON
4. a) Let go of the odometer button, press it again,
b) Let go, press it again,
c) (you guessed it) Let go, press it again and hold until the seatbelt icon on your dash turns off
5. The screen will go blank, followed by a flashing FORD - Your trip computer is now ON.
6. You can press the odometer button now to navigate between 18 menus, including digital rev/speedo, digital fuel to empty, digital average fuel, current fuel, last service km’s.
7. To turn off, follow steps 1 to 5 again.

Here are the meanings of each dispaly:

I've found that it resets after a while, and each time you do it it doesn't stay up as long as it does the time before.

It only stays on for like a minute now.

Nah I don't...

It was handy for a while, but it ended up bein useless.

First time it happened I s**t myself, all of the guages went off, almost like it was rebooting.

Haven't tried it again since the battery was replaced, maybe the counter or limit resets when the battery is removed?

Yeah it works with no trip comp, the display comes up on your odometer.

But like others have said it goes away for some reason, cant remember how long ti stayed though only tested it out twice.

yeh ive seen a couple falcons that seem to be content with this running with out resets or anything but my xr6 was fine for ages then it now does this....seems to only be tho if you have it set on the rpm/kmph digital readout.

I have been using it for a week now and its great fun. It has reset on me 2 times 1 when I hit the rev limiter and the other time i am not sure as i wasnt looking at it when it happened.
