I've searched this so if it's somewhere else then id like to know how to find it.
The BA engine was the first to come out with DOHC? from the looks of the heads on the AU it seems to be anyway. I'm no mechanic so im not sure. But if so, can the BA head be used on an AU block or earlier? Would this be cheaper than getting a whole second hand engine to put in and EF or EL? Would the BA XR6T engine fit into the EF engine bay??

Has been covered before, more than once Im sure!
Basically, they don't fit. And even if you could make them bolt up... the electronics to handle the dual VCT's is required... And for that you need a BA ECU which only works with some BA chip... I think you may find that the gains as weighed up with the trouble of doing all that would be not worth it. But personally I'd like to see it. So if you got the cash, then do it.. take some photos, and it'll put this question to rest once and for all. And Im not 100% sure on physical fitting.. Im pretty sure that they don't fit under the bonnet afterwards, and there was soemthing esle. Cheers EDIT - Oh, and yes.,. a BA XR6T will fit in the EF engine bay. Talk to XR8 dismantler, or neo_nick. They can get you all the parts needed. This would be cheaper and alot easier than just the head (in terms of gains). And yes, the BA was the first ford inline 6 DOHC engine. And sometime ago there was a guy in ?queenslands? I think, and he made DOHC heads for the E series fords, but for some ridiculous price.. like 6 grand or something... easier to stick a turbo on for that.

the xr6t engine wont fit directly in the engine bay its not a straight bolt up, you need to mod the bonnet to make it fit

I still find that a direct bolt in
Just close the bonnet really hard, and viola! Or you can use it as an excuste to get a scoop. Cheers

Oh well, sounds like the whole BA engine would be the go then.
If i wanted to get full running gear like engine, gearbox, diff, driveshaft etc, would a damaged/stolen/retrieved auction be the way to go?? If there wass some burned one or a fully bent (but not fornt end obviously) one it might be ok. Whats everyone think? Or would it be better to buy one from a wrecker that way i could take it back if it wont start. Just weighing options atm.

i would of thought it'd be easier to work your current set up if your after more power. i mean the BA I6's are pretty powerful for stock, but there not exactly the be all and end all now. and a decent condition BA engine and transmission and all electrics might set you back $2,500ish (and its second hand) which is teh same price as the base turbo kit from snort performance... (just to give you a bit of an idea on other contrasting ideas). obviously both would have other costs associated. or alternatively, take your current engine to JMM or ITS and get some work done there.

that may be the case but bolt one on an EF XR6 and have the XR6 cam profile put on to the two cams and there was a 30KW increase in power. they were also a true HEMI combustion chamber. |

From what i remember the front of the rocker cover sticks out the bonnet, If you have the rocker cover stickin out the bonnet you wont be able to get a roadworthy in vic (not sure bout nsw) im pretty sure as its an impact hazard cause its too close to the front. Also i hear you can use xf tb to get around the fly by wire acceleration cable doovalacky.
When it comes down to it, if you want to do it then go for it. However by the time its done you probobly could have just bought an XR6t ba. my 2 cents someone will corrrect me if im wrong
