hey guys,
when i want to drag at the lights or anywhere really from a standing start, do you guys suggest 'power' or 'eco' i always use 'power' however iv been reading that the falcon I6's are strongest in 2nd gear and above, not first gear so would it be logical to drag in 'eco' so you reach second gear quicker? cheers Daniel

At wide open throttle it seems to be about the same, so either/or.
I always leave mine in economy. better for the environment and the wallet.

I doubt you will see any differences..
All your power option will allow is for the gears to rev out; id also stick in econ personally altho whatever you rather..

From a rolling start say half way through a traffic intersection, i'd be in power mode so when you floor it it will still be in 1st and won't have changed into 2nd in economy mode.

Cheers Luke. If youre going to take the effort to reach down and find the power button, might as well slam it back into 1st. Besides, public roads arent for drag racing.

Flat stick they box operate exactly the same but with less throttle it changes earlier in eco. I drive the cab in power and the fairlane in eco.

I find in the fairmont, power mode is a bit better for around town type driving, eco good for the freeway (doesn't hunt between 3rd and 4th uphill), and eco better when I'm putting the boot in, cause I think something (solenoids?) is f**k in my box, meaning it will hold gear TOO long, meaning a bit of a backoff is required to get it too shift. And in power the backoff needed is too big.
I just realised how ridiculously lazy I am...

At full throttle it makes little difference. Only at part throttle it makes it a bit more responsive to a nudge.

Dude just slam it back to first and manually shift it! they usually shift in drive at about 5500 so when you manually shift you can hold it longer! Just dont hold it too long!

Why would you want to hold it longer then 5500???
If you do that against an identical car with an auto in drive, watch him rocket past you when he shifts into second...

pml, agreed - i wouldnt wanna go any higher than 5000rpm in a std or slightly modded I6; they dont have that much puff up that high and by that rev count you could easily drop into 2nd n have a kick in the pants n do it all over again with more power to be had..
1st gear in fords is a killa, sorry - when i am going for it all i wait for is that 1st gear change, feels like it takes 10min but once it happens the car gets up n moves. In the FBT, i rather not just floor it n let her shift, seems to rev till 6000-6500 rpm n when it shifts it looses traction when it grabs 2nd, rather shift it at around 5000rpm as i did in the 6cyl as its smoother.
