layzemikE wrote: hi all could you drop a v6 engine into a ford Fairmont 1995 ef sedan?? With enough money you can fit whatever you want in there. But the short answer to fitting a V6.. no. It will be a nightmare job. If you meant a V8, yes. But you will need to change the ECU (Engine management computer) as well as the entire engine wiring loom and a few other things like exhaust etc. Another popular conversion is to put the AU series L(Long or inline)6 engine in. A google search will give you some good info on this. layzemikE wrote: im new to the forum so ye also my Fairmont has a red f on the boot badge is that a ef No, the red F is the Fairmont logo.

We were all new once... at least he asked.
And as I said, he could have meant V8. Anyway, the number of people who are unaware of the nomenclature for different engine configurations is higher then you might think.

V6 in falcon? I really hope he meant V8... Otherwise go buy V6 commodore and be fully sick brah... Swapping the mighty i6 for a v6 is just wrong...

U often see a lot ads on gumtree with people saying there falcon has a v6 or even a "high series v6".
Anyway, I wouldn't have known much unless my father told me. That was b4 i found this website. For the OP - I6 refers to the straight/inline cylinders. v6 means there are 3 on each side, and are in a v formation. Below is a straight 6. Very strong & smooth engine. A lot of cars traditionally had this design of motor but a lot of car manufactures switched over to turbo diesels or v6's because they are not as long and cheaper to make a believe. If the OP can spare a few hours, he should a good look around here. U learn a lot. If he meant just another i6, well yes simple if its from the same block or whatever. That is EB through to AU. Pretty much same design. Best bet would be to drop in an AU motor or tickford. But don't put an older model engine in a new car. Anyone correct me if im wrong, pls! We're planning on swapping an el tickford motor into our futura. Basically the same built date so its fairly straight forward if you have the equipment and know how.

A lot of manufacturers use V6 because they are shorter in fit ACROSS the engine bay in front wheel drive cars.
You may have noticed the Falcon is rear wheel drive (until 2015 anyway. Sigh) BMW (E46 M3 for example), NISSAN (Skylines), and FORD AUSSIE make a nice inline six. Toyota Supra, Jaguar, Aston Marton... They all had nice smooth straight (inline) sixes. The way the pistons go up and down in relation to each other makes the power smooth. Holden used to use the straight six, and none of the V6's have ever caught up since. |

M3 is now a V8 and the Skyline is now a V6. Ford Aussie I6 is one of the last of the straight sixes in a passenger car.

Why would you swap your inline-6 for a worse engine (assuming you're dropping a Commo engine in)? Unless you meant V8. Stick to what works in a Falcon and upgrade that if power is what you're chasing. The Ford 6 in your Falcon is one of the better engines that has been produced.

Ford Aussie I6 is basically... http://www.bmwheaven.com/database/engin ... e=N54#/211 looks nice mind you, and according to that site, still being made. They started putting these I6's into Roadsters and the X 4WD people mover series. I thought they still made them, am damn sure there was a fast as all f ck BMW inline six on Top Gear UK six months ago?! I know NZ is far behind Australia in a number of regards, but we did get unrestricted Jap cars, where as all yours were de-tuned AU assembled laugh boxes... But according to BMW NZ they have Inline 6's in 3351i, 325i, Coupe's, 335i M Sport (3 litre), Z4 Sdrive... I got sick of looking at this point. They also have a huge number of straight six diesels still listed as brand new off the showroom floor options. Ah well - And yeah, I only included the Nissan RB motors to show how popular and good they were - Skyline being example, but Z series (Fairlady), Cefiro... Even the VL Commonwhore were all usable. The Nissan straight sixes are re-powering all sorts of machines to this day.... |

Yes you are correct, BMW still use the N54 3.0L & N55 3.0L but both are Turbo. Maybe the Aussie I6 is one of the last of the NA inline Sixes?
Nissian still do the TB petrol straight six but it is in the Patrol. |

If you still think of using a v6 why not try and find the 4L V6 from a ford ranger 4wd now that will shock a few people .
Sorry guys had to say it
