Has anyone ever dyno tested different crosspipes?

The BA crosspipe is possibly the shortest, and the EF's is possibly the longest. It would be interesting to see the differences in performance.

I spoke to someone recently that had just swapped his EF for an AU, and he reckons the EF had a lot more bottom end (the AU has better fuel economy though). The AU crosspipe is almost as short as the BA.

my seat of the pants feel is that the EF is a fair bit more responsive than the AU and EL, I have always wondered why it was....but i have not actual figures to back it up...

Why not just get a 3" pipe made up, I have BA falcon intake setup sitting under my bed if anyone wants it lol.

I actually gained 3rwkw by changing from ef to ba setup, back to back runs within ten minutes of each other. Well actually lost 3 because I had the ba one on for the first run and put down 154.5 then, for the test changed back to ef and only managed 151.3.
Also , just looking at my dyno printout, noticed a fair peak with the ef one just off the start but then tapers off. moot, point now cos i have a 3" mandrell intake, but I don't think it was worth the stuffing around. Should have stayed with the ba setup cos the best i got out of the mandrell pipe was 148.9 at Dynomotive. I'll have to go back to MK automotive and have another go on theirs to see if it makes a difference back to back with the three intakes :twisted: and check that resistor in the A.I.T. sensor trick :roll: :wink:

but 3rwkw could be anything, each time you dyno your car, like run after run, it dosn't make the same number.

everyone is talking kw, how about the torque figures? if your gaining no kw, but you gain 5 nm of torque then thats a great result for the simplest and cheapest of all mods!

How can you measure torque though? most dyno's show this tractive effort bar now.

Power = Torque x RPM

Torque = Force x Distance from Rotational Axis

Force = Tractive Effort.

Dyno's measure the torque on the rollers and the RPM. They can then transfer this information into forces (tractive effort), and/or express it as power.


The quarter mile times and the dyno figures given in an earlier post do indeed indicate the amount of torque, but not necessarily the amount of torque at low rpm.

Based on the information given so far, if you drive around town a lot in stop start driving, instant off-idle torque is great stuff for you, and maybe you should consider an EF crosspipe. Whereas most other forms of driving would indicate the choice of a BA setup.

I already have a complete BA intake and it cost me $85. I created this thread because with the BA crosspipe i had to put my LPG mixer before the crosspipe, whereas if i got an EF crosspipe i could fit the mixer before the throttlebody, which would give quicker throttle response. Because i live in the country i may stick with the BA. I'll see how it goes when the engine's in and running.

HP = Torque x RPM ÷ 5252


it easy. use excel, make a speed sheet that converts your KW figures to HP and torque.

as has been said before more time that can be counted. peak power means f**k all. power under the curve is the key.
