Hey everyone!
I see alot of people have got there rides on a dyno, or plan to in the near future so I thought id start this up for people that plan to but dont know much about dynos. If you are going to get your car dyno-tested, is there a best time to take it? eg. morning, afternoon, when its cold weather etc.? |

Premium Fuel, advance timing slightly (unless u have a bloody ef ).
In the dead of night when its freezing cold I guess would be the best time... I think the altitude is compensated for by dynos so it shouldn't matter if your ontop of a mountain or in a valley |

yeah thats all good if you want good power read outs. but i think its better to do it in the afternoon. when and in the warm. when you are more then likely going to be driving your car. and in the conditions you'll be driving your car too. but for power runs. then at night for sure

Dynos in shootout mode compensate for temperature too. So don't bother.

i was going to say, the dyno would compensate for temp wouldnt it as the car is not moving so only limited air would be getting in anyways?

Just drive there, park it up on the rollers and give it a go, get a proper real world figure instead of a artificially bloated boast number.

Sure are, and the dyno measures and compensates for them. It really doesnt matter what the conditions are, the dyno measures barometric pressure, humidity, etc and compensates for any undesirable conditions. As said above, if you want the best results then advance the timing and tweak the timing (I do even though I have a bloody ef ). Fix up any little problems (leads, plugs, old oil, make sure the tires are pumped up nice and hard, etc) and give it a run.

wheres a decent place to get a car dynoed around the eastern suburbs, I'm gonna be doing my first mod soon and wan't a stock chart for comparison.

yeh i was under the impression that tire pressure effects the power out put (for obvious reasons) and there for the pressure for a shootout run is a constant number..

Unfornately there seams to be a bit of that on this forum and my Au isnt one of them. Just couldnt help it after reading this.

Well said!!! Just take it there as it is. Put it on the dyno in shootout mode. Let the dyno operator do his job. And tell us what she pumps out. I reckon if you take it to a couple of different dyno operators and see what sort of results you get from both (to see if there is any difference) then you will get a pretty accurate result. This is what I'm doing at the end of the year. |

and after all that, stay with the same dyno for all your future mods... dyno readouts vary dyno to dyno
