Your are getting rid of your car because of something so minor as an AUX shaft?
Are you out of your mind troy? *slaps you across the head with a phone book several times* |

I was talking to a mechanic mate of mine tonite and he seems to think this may have been caused by the fact the au shaft was never supposed to have to extra load of a dizzy on it. He told me you can buy a strengthend gear to replace the weak piece of s**t that's standard.
But on another note why bother rebuilding the motor? You can pick up low km motors for under $500 now.

yea its either get another engine as they are cheap as chips and as disposable as napies..
the reason im thinking about another car is the ea still looks good but its been keyd and there are a few dings that piss me off .the paint on the roof is starting to fade the tops of the guards are covered in crows feet.. and if i do get another one it will be a box car as everything can be swapped over. i looked at a couple yesterday and the were in great condition and only just over $1000 with reg. these things are so cheap now i cant beleive it. there is even a few ef fairmonts going for around $2500 i looked at a nl fairlane it was only $3500 and these are in car yards. |

If the exhaust gasses are going under the gasket firing ring into the cooling system without any external leaking, and the cooling system seals okay, you'll find a compression test may come up okay, so this may throw you off proper diagnosis. A good telltale for this condition is when you release the coolant tank cap, they'll be plenty pressure remaining in the cooling system when the engine is cold. Know this one from experience .
Troy, try a timing light on each individual lead - see if you're getting consistent firing on each cylinder. I'm still suspecting an ignition issue - be it crossfiring or whatever - and try this in low daylight/night conditions. EDIT: Just read the rest of the thread Be interesting to see if the aux shaft part nos vary from EF/EL to AU - I doubt the AU one would be any different in manufacture.

Is it possible/worthwhile to just dismantle the front of the engine and pull the Aux shaft out? I have an EL Aux shaft here, that you could use to replace it.

BenJ maybe? but i dont know how bad it is? and aparently there is no bearing in the block so i dont know if its just the shaft/gear or is the block now damaged? and i honestly couldnt be bothered with it anymore. but if i change the engine and it by chance has the same problem it will be going to the falcon hell the fist engine died with a bearing knock and this engine only has 107,000 on it and now its f**k! i thought these engines were better than this..(or im just un lucky) on another note i checked out the cars i mentioned and i now know why they are so cheap.lol all the falcons with good bodys have blown head gaskets and all the ones with good engines are rust buckets.. or they are cfi 3 speed autos. and ive been offered my old ed back for $1000..but i dont know what to do?? |

the engines should be better than that my au has 250000 ks and still goin strong, the only non original parts are the clutch and exhaust as far as I can tell. Not even the head has been done
