I suspect differing wear rates on the gears. There's no gear on the oil pump, its driven by a hex key off the distributor, which is driven by the aux shaft.

Holden 202s with high volume/pressure pumps had this problem also.
I use to mod the oiling system to flow better and to only have around 45psi oil pressure and pretty much cured it. On the HiPo turbo falcon engine I am building ATM have ported the stock oil pump and all oiling chanels and have a oil feed to the drive gear. I doubt there will ever be a problem

and one of the first things my engine machinist (southside engine centre) mentioned when I bought the block in was just to use the stock pump as they have seen engines rooted because running the HV pump

With all the red motors I ran, I always ditched the resin camshaft gear and put an alloy one on. I noticed the last red motors (VB commo) ran a plastic dizzy gear - this was replaced with a metal one too.FLASH wrote: snap0964 wrote: Got pics of the oil pump gear and dizzy drive gear Troy ???I suspect differing wear rates on the gears. Then maybe inspect the dizzy/aux gear every 10 000k or so.

apparently this is not an unknown problem on many falcons....not just the AU...I think a bronze gear is available as a replacement

i should have mentioned that when i spoke to ford???? lol
it still got me stuffed how or why these aux shafts fail in some engines but not in others? |

unfortunately i'd say it's a QA issue, friday jobs as compared to monday jobs... or inconsistant base metal.
although everyone has their own driving traits and most people are inclined to break one particular thing more than others, for example some people are clutch burners, gearbox thrashers, diff smashers, bottom end blowers etc. maybe your just inclined to throw auxillary shafts troyman lol

Well we know that all the aux shafts have the same part number.. but what about the block in that area? does it have slacker tolerances or something?
There must be a reason I've head of all these AU aux shafts and none for previous models. perhaps a big batch of aux shafts for AU's were substandard and they decided it didn't matter when all they were turning were CA sensors. seems very odd that nearly every story of aux shaft woe on here or elsewhere involves an AU motor. |
