Just had a bit of an upset on my project EL XR6 car. Although I would swear I did, apparently didnt tighten the cam gear bolt enough. Sheared the pin off the crow vernier cam gear, cam stopped, piston hit valve and snapped the rocker arm. The car was just idling at the time, basically second time it has been started. The valve is okay, as is the piston.
However I need a new rocker arm, just wondering what models will fit as I have a spare EA motor. The pin sheared off the cam gear, just wondering if it is possible to press in a pin from a standard cam gear, or if it is a Crow specific part. Does anyone have a photo of the standard cam gear I would really appreciate help tonite, so that I can get the parts tomorrow morning and finish the car!! Thanks in advance Last edited by rainoffire on Mon Mar 07, 2011 12:44 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

you havnt gone and put a early e series cam in a late el have you??
incase you dont know, the late el's run au cam and rockers which are 1.8 ratio compared to the early e series 2.0.. which means possably the pin shearing and rocker breaking was caused from the valve hitting the piston? |

Hey there, no mine is early series EL with all EL running gear, I specifically made sure when I bough the car. All the work was done by CMS on the original parts that were fitted to the car, so it shouldn't be that. It ran for 5 minutes before it happened, so clearances were fine

i'm guessing you done the bolt up tight without the dowel pin engaged. it would be advisable to just swap the entire rack. the ea arms aren't the same. although they are interchangeable with same ratio types, i ran an el rack in my ea. like troyman mentioned though they changed ratios in the el and i'm not sure when.

Hey guys, thanks for your help, managed to track down another set of rockers arms from an EF, the press a new dowel pin into the cam gear from a stock cam. Went to bolt it all together and realised that one of the exhaust valves is sitting low, meaning bent valve, so the head has to come off again. Hopefully get it done this week though
Just wondering, are AU headgaskets reusable? Its had the head on for around 3 months, but only run for like 2 minutes? Did use hylomar on it during assembly though |

the valve is NOT ok.
For the $15 you'll pay for a new is really worth the risk? |
