EA falcon S performance upgrade?
I have an EA falcon S with a 3.9 MPEFI I6 and 5 speed manual gearbox. Is it worth hotting up the 3.9 I6 or is using a later model I6 better? Another option I was thinking about is re-powering the car with a V8. If anyone has done either of these conversion on this model car; can you please help me with information. |

it's worth going to the 4.0 ... but you need to work out how far you want to go with it. a few have gone the AU motor, with a bigger few going the later BA/BF/FG route.

Which one of the 4 engines that were mentioned would be the best to re- power the EA? Also what modifications are required to fit it? i.e.- engine mounts, sump, bellhouseing, electrics.

ohh .. forgot one thing . . . . . . if you fit an EF or AU motor ... you will need to fit a dizzy, as these use coil packs instead of dizzy. so you will need to know how to do the timing of the motor re fitting dizzy [plus fit/swap the drive gears for said dizzy so you don't destroy the Aux shaft].

For ease of installing with minimal modification, EB/ED would fit straight in and you'd use the log manifold. You can put in the EL motor straight in and have options to go serpentine belt set up (single accessories belt) and run the Broad Band Manifold (BBM) over the log manifold. I'm not sure electric wise, but if you swap everything over, engine loom will need to be changed to suit.
