No arguments there bowsaw - cutting springs FTL. Cars with chopped springs ride like a b**ch.

Even if they do become unseated tho, they will return to their normal position, all be it with a bang n clunk.

Get spacers for the shocks so they dont bottom out so easy, itll give em more travel... I find cutting springs f**k everything, things tend to break... id just buy a set of lowered ones, its the same kind of job as cutting, they still have to be pulled out... might aswell do it at the same time... Cheap on ebay, there is a guy that custom makes them to what you need.

I wise man once told me springs are made to tension from the centre out.... So by cutting them you kinda screw that up?

i don't condone spring chopping either, but seriously, by some of the comments posted i think people get this mental picture of someone cutting 5 coils off or something and driving round with 4 different length coils in each corner or something. sheesh. if you only cut off a small amount and equal amounts on all 4 then you won't tell the difference. if using an angle grinder it does heat up the spring but only fairly local to where you are cutting.

if the spring is so short that its no longer 'trapped' by the shock/strut then it won't matter if they're chopped or new, they will both move around when the suspension is unloaded and handling will also suffer accordingly.

if chopping springs is what you want to do then as long as you're not stupid and cut 3 coils off or something it shouldn't be a problem.

having said that, aftermarket ideally is the way to go.

well i got king spring lows from my old xr8 fitted to my ea and i cut 3/4 of a coil off the front because after i fitted them to the ea it sat 1 1/2 to high compared to the back...

and there is no way that the springs will fall out..
its now been like that for 2 years now and the car has no handling issues, wear or noises from the front end...

i do agree with others when they say its dangerous to cut your springs but only if your trying to be fully sick low and cut 3 coils of and the car is riding on the bump stops..

otherwise ive done it to heaps of cars but when i cut them i have only cut small amounts of the spring so that there is no chance of the spring falling out. and usually its only to lower the car 1" or so.

but if you want your car super low i would suggest you should get proper super low springs with shortend shocks.
but if you just want it a little lower than std and cant really afford new springs go for it..
just dont cut 2 much off or you will have to get new spings anyway
