Hi all I have an ea fairmont ghia 3.9l multipoint 5 speed.
I want to put an ef or el motor in it and was wondering what is involved.
Are the engine mounts the same will the ea t5 bolt straight up and will I have to change the loom and computer and is the thermo fans easy to change?
Cheers

Im thinking of doing the same thing when my motor goes

Well if you retain the log manifold and get a EL motor i guess that will come with a dizzy and coil on it already but its not hard to change the sensor into a dizzy

and at the same time i guess you will be doing a serpentine belt conversion as the motor will already have the harmonic balancer on it etc so its just a matter of using new alternator and p.s pump or putting a new pulley on

Engine mounts i am not 110% sure but you can use one or the other

T5 will bolt straight up you may need a newer revised fly wheel though as ive heard they have more bolts in them i think its 6 vs 3 stupid EA's having so much different to the EB-AU (i got a EA to)

Computer wise id run a EL ECU and get a J3 and read a guide in the tech documents on thermo fans you will get a tune for "performance" and have ECU controlled thermos vs purchasing a $60 thermo switch

EF/EL motor are basicly the same, only difference being that the EF uses Coilpack and EL uses dizzy. If you grab an EF engine just pull the cam sinc sensor and fit you Dizzy. Bolt up your existing Log manifold and you won't need to change the ECU. Use your existing wiring loom and ECU if not fitting the Thermo fans or you can set up a Davis Craig swith to trigger them and you will be fine.

All E series have the same mount points as. EF and early EL use oil filled mounts, other use rubber block type mounts.

All E series bellhousings are the same so you will have no issue fitting the T5 bellhousing. EF/EL have 6 bolt pressure plates.

If you want to fit the BBM you will need the EL ECU and it will need a smart lock bypass.

If you swap over you inlet manifold, wiring, alternator, water pump, power steering pump, eng mounts, and harmonic balancer and pulley and a few brackets and bits and peices, everything will bolt straight in with no modifications what so ever.
