On a hoist, remove K frame, remove sump, then remove crank & pistons.

Do you want the easiest way or the way that you think is easiest?

Easiest way has already been posted.

When compared to everything you have to remove to remove the engine and transmission then yes it is the easiest way.

Would still probably be an idea to remove the head sp that you can give it a bit of a hone though wouldnt it?

and just how are you going to get the pistons back in????
and remember the crank is bolted to a flex plate or flywheel and you cant get it out
you have to take the head off.

the other thing to consider is if you are going to this much trouble why not take the engine and give it proper rebuild?

motor isnt that hard to get out... bellhousing bolts and starter... manifold... a/c compressor off the motor if u dont wanna lose the gas... pwr steering pump off.. u can even leave the alternator if u feel like it.. than its just a few bits of wiring here and there and the intake manifold.. and out comes the motor.. :)

IMO its easier to pull the motor out and work with it on a stand than to do the work with the engine still in the car.....

I agree with most of about - pull the engine and chuck some new bearings, timing gear etc while you doing it. Its not that hard. I have pulled the k-frame to get to the bottom of the engine before, but you will need some creating thinking to change the rings going that route.

I have not seen anyone re-ring a motor before by putting pistons in from unneath the car before .

Do it right, and get it right the first time, Remove motor and box (together)

Engine on a stand

Remove head.

ACL race/rebuild it

You are going to need a piston ring compressor to install the pistons down the bores, Never seen anyone do it from unneath the block before.
