I usually buy the most expensive can of Engine Degreaser (I get one that actually says Engine Degreaser, not just degreaser - just incase). Works fine and is only like a dollar or two more...

the cheap degreasers work the best, if it's real bad, get a good stiff paint brush after spraying the degreaser, and break up all the s**t, then give it some more degreaser, let it soak for a couple of minutes and hit it with the hose. then repeat if necessary.

The cheap degreasers dont work the best... the paint in my engine bays always come up looking really awful after a degrease with cheap stuff.
Go to your local car parts store, like autobarn or supercheap and get a bottle of liquid degreaser that you have to put in a squirty bottle - by far the best degreaser. |

degreaser
brush it in, something with stiff bristles a few minutes later hose down reapeat if necessary. protect the dizzy and coil, a few plastic shopping bags do the trick.

do what i do on all of my cars... this kills 30+ years of grease easily... buy a 20L drum of degreaser form repco/autopro. either put it into an old jif bottle, or an engine cleaning gun (better)... soak the bastard in it (wear a mask, its like 100g/L NaOH- NASTY stuff. make sure engine is not hot. spray off with HIGH pressure hose. Youll eb amazed at what that does...
if some bits are being nasty and tough, get an oldschool toilet scrubbing brush (the hard bristled ones), spray the degreaser on, scrub, wait a few min, spray, scrub some more, wait another 2 min, then hose off. you will be AMAZED at what that stuff can do.. btw, 20L degreaser set me back 30-35 dollars, lasts me about a year, and i degrease a LOT!

Easy off Bam is a mild acid based cleaner.
Don't use acid based cleaners to clean engine bays
