So over 500 dollars worth of dollars spent on engine and parts.
Are there many xr engine floating about? Didn't think a simple cam on its own un tuned would give you 20kw. |

about 500 including buying the engine. then it'll go like an XR. better than spending 500 on the 3.9

My EB doesnt have a 3.9 in it, but it did have the stock mpefi 4.0. Luckily I came across an abandoned EL which cost me all of $90 to drag home on a trailer. From this I got the ECU, BBM, Thermo fans (No one has mentioned this mod here but sadly for you, that noisy piece of s**t clutch fan is stealing about 10 of your horsepowers all the time...) as well as a few other bits and pieces (Spare cylinder head to be port matched to the BBM and exhaust when the extractor gods smile upon me, and a cam to send off to Wade and also a cat back 2.5 inch sports system). If I was you, I would keep my nose in the classifieds and find a EL automatic falcon that is being sold as a wreck and scump all the parts Ive listed off of it, and then follow the How to do a BBM conversion I wrote in the tech documents section, put the thermos in as well and go from there. You Will notice a definate increase in Torque and Power, and if you can get the donor car for a song and its in good enough condition otherwise, you can make your money back selling off the parts that you dont use. You may even make a profit and spend it on a cam or a fancy exhaust or somethen. Oh yeah, Id guess you would get your 20 kilowasps with the BBM and other mods listed here too...

Hey dude. Welcome to the 3.9 club Haha.
Have a read of my thread, (link in signature) I got a 3.9...honestly, the extra 100ml dosnt matter much really, although if you like getting real technical don't smaller capacity engines rev quicker? (LOL) It recently put down 120Kw. Thermo fans will make a world of difference, I won't go re writing it all here, but have a read of my build and you'll . I don't think there's many on here who have a 3.9 specifically (not that it really matters as above). For 500 though you should be able to get a nice start, especially o your doing the work yourself am you are good at parts hunting.

haha thanks mate
yeh i havent seen too many people talking about the 3.9 but heaps talking about the 4.0, but like you said how much of a difference can it really make ! What do you recommened i do first that is the cheapest and that makes the most difference, and also easy to do with on my own? and is there any place you would recommened to go to get a 2.5inch exhaust done? |

Simple thing is get everything second hand if you can, can save you a bundle....
Ebay, forums & mates can be a blessing if you are patient and can wait.... Get a search going on ebay for ea-el parts withing 200kays... you will be amazed at the bargains that you will pick up.... have patience..... It is amazing what you can achieve on a limited budget if you are prepared to give things a go.... And to drive that point home... here is my previous car..... what I started with.... After 2 years, bargains galore.... Total cost $4000 and that includes buying the car...... All the work done by myself.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzMVCfoY0SI picture video I did

Nice paint.
FYI, its not 100ml difference, its more like 35 or so. Its so marginal it has me stuffed why they did it in the first place. |

Ive been told by a few race motor builders and mechanics to never use an engine flush treatment as it frees up all the corrosive and/or abrasive deposits and f**k your bearings and rings. Its better to use a good quality oil (I use Mobil 1) and let it do the work of cleaning stuff up without bringing out the bad stuff.
