My EB 4L has been using oil for a while, and lately it's been smoking on cold mornings too . That's even after changing to Penrite HPR30 20W/60, so I'm starting to look at rebuild options.
I know I could let it go for a while, but I'm quite fond of my car and don't want to risk it getting worse and damaging pistons or bores, or have the shame of driving a smoky car (I left all that behind when I sold my Commodore). My main question: is there much to be gained from blueprinting a Falcon engine? I won't be taking this car down the forced induction road, but since the engine has to be ripped apart, I want to make the most of it. Any ideas to get it performing a bit better, but keeping it all under-stressed and without using more fuel. (or am I completely kidding myself?) Lastly, recommendations for places to get the work done in Perth? |

I wouldnt bother with blue printing or balancing unless you're looking to gain every last bit of performance from your car or you plan on revving it out past 6000rpm. If you're looking to go forced, we've seen so many guys running totally stock 4L engines with 8-14psi pushing well over 200RWKW with no reliability issues.
It would probably be a better move to look at a low mileage EL long motor. These can be had for around $600-800 from your local wrecker. Quicker, cheaper and easier than rebuilding your current setup. Just make sure you get compression figures before you buy, and a warranty if in doubt. My general thought is that any car which has ended up at the wreckers after an accident must've been in (near) roadworthy condition
