I went out tonight and looked at an EB and when i opened the bonnet there was a 3.9L cpi motor, carby style inlet manifold and all. Did any come from the factory like this or has someone done a dodgy install. the plate where the vin number is says its a 92 so its not just someone calling an EA an EB and the tail lights are EB. so does anyone know WTF is goin on??

Also when does a gas install expire and have to be re-checked?

the first series EB falcons still had 3.9l motor's with cfi or mpi. You need to look at a late model 92 model EB series II which has the 148kw 4l donk and heaps of improvements to the body, wiring etc.

Cheers Luke

just a bit confusing that they would bother with the cpi. what were the power differences between the cpi and mpi?

Yes, some EB1 where CFI, one of the latest one i picked up was a CFI,

(alted budget buildup car)

I think gas needs to be checked every 10 yrs? ... or is it 7? or it could even be 5 ... im not 100% sure ...

The EB1 CFI's are very easy to upgrade to MPI, all the wiring is there for a MPI upgrade .

thanks for that but when stockstandard stated 120 vs 147kw is that the 3.9 cpi vs 3.9mpi or 3.9cpi vs 4L mpi?? because 27kw byu converting to mpi is very tempting.

Tank gets removed and tested every 10 yrs - as far as NSW rego checks go, needs to be done by certified LPG inspector (most garages/auto mechanics can), along with rego check, IIRC, they're supposed to check system operation, externally check the tank and engine bay, and ensure the red LPG stickers are prominant on the number plates. Newer LPG installs now have the LPG sticker sitting on an alloy backplate rivetted to the No plate.
